Chapter 16: In the Hog’s Head

Two weeks later, Harry agrees to help teach the others Defense Against the Dark Arts and they decide to hold a meeting of interested students in Hogsmeade. They meet in the Hog’s Head bar (where Hagrid once bought a dragon’s egg from a mysterious stranger). To Harry’s surprise, 25 other people show up to the meeting.
After some debate, the group agrees to hold weekly meetings but need to find somewhere secret to gather. All the students sign their name to a piece of parchment to be part of the group. Hermione notices that Cho spent the whole time staring at Harry.

Question:

So Harry has agreed to plan and teach Defence Against the Dark Arts the way it should be taught, not the way Umbridge is teaching it. Is it possible to learn DADA from text books only? Why does Harry agree to teach?

no.. harry agreed to teach because he likes to educate the children about what he knows so when time comes, they will be able to defend themselves especially in scenes like the wizarding war.

Any form of learning must be coupled with experience. Especially something as serious as DADA. Harry agreed to teach the other students for a couple of reasons, I think. First, he really believes that they are not getting sufficient education courtesy of the new DADA Prof. He knows and believes that if they are to survive (what with the return of the Dark Lord, despite the Minister's protestations) , they must learn how to defend themselves properly.

Second reason is, well, I guess Harry teaching the other students is his own way of one-upping Dolores. He is being a rebel with a good cause! He finds it fulfilling not just because of the students learning something from him, but because he knows that by disrupting the order, he is actually doing something to further the cause.
