An owl from the Ministry of Magic arrived expelling him from Hogwarts, for performing magic outside the school in front of a muggle.. There was also letters from Arthur Weasley and Sirius.
Vernon and Petunia confronts Harry about what happened to their son and blaming him for it. He is trying his best to explain everything that it was the Dementor who attacked Dudley. Vernon asked what Dementors are and it was Petunia who answered "they are the guards of Azkaban - the wizarding world's prison." It was a shock for Harry to hear this from his Aunt. It only shows that she knows a lot about the wizarding world than she ever admitted.
And the final owl surprised everyone - a Howler with an echoing voice that tells: "REMEMBER MY LAST, PETUNIA!"

Questions:

1. Petunia's revelation about her knowledge on the Wizarding world was a shock for Harry. All his life he was never treated normally by the Dursleys and haven't got the slightest idea that Dursleys know something about the wizarding world. What do you think is Dumbledore's reason/s why he let Petunia keep everything from Harry? Do you think it would be better if he knows all about this from the moment he learned about Hogwarts?

2. Harry received two letters from the Improper Use of Magic Office the night after the dementor incident. What do you think Dumbledore told the Ministry that made them change their decision about Harry’s expulsion from Hogwarts and distruction of his wand?

I imagine the Headmaster using his clout with the Ministry at this point. The Ministry may be wary of the Headmaster's intentions but it cannot be argued that Dumbledore's wisdom puts every witch and wizard in awe and with great respect. His word is practically the law (he is in fact responsible for the constitution of some of these laws). I don't know if the Headmaster had some kind of leverage that he could've used to twist the proverbial arm of the officer in charge but I guess his word is leverage enough. This puts another layer of meaning to the phrase "using the magic word." Smile

because petunia already knew about the wizarding world, especially when her relative, lily evans, entered hogwarts. it won't be better if harry knows about the knowledge that petunia has because it would be a great mess if he do so.

the ministry officials have very great RESPECT to dumbledore. Dumbledore's legacy made these officials made them change their minds.
