Dobby: A Free Elf
Now that we've seen it on-screen, it's final. Dobby is now truly free. R.I.P.
Did you cry during Dobby's death in the film?
Also, share your favorite Dobby moments--from the all of the HP films and books--here.

Re: Dobby: A Free Elf
I almost cried, medyo teary-eyed. I felt that ache sa heart (naks, hehe), ramdam ko yung lungkot starting from the moment Bellatrix threw the knife. I was like "No! Dobby!"
I liked Dobby from the moment I saw him in the CoS movie. (I saw it first before I read the books)
Anyway, I'd like to share my sister's blog post on Dobby. She's a PHP member herself, tanglewood14 from Hufflepuff. It's been a long time since she visited the castle, she might be back, I'm not sure. But in the meantime, here's the link

I did but not as much as when I read it. However, it was during that part of the movie where I cried the most. Now that we've seen it on-screen, it's final. Dobby is now truly free. R.I.P.

same po sa akin..the scenes in the movies are too fast, kaya mabilis ding nawala yung feeling of extreme sadness that I felt for the loss of another character like Dobby. Unlike sa book, pwede kang magstop to feel the loss even more.

I'll miss Dobby in DH2.

made me teary eyed during the first screening, though I cried more when I read the book, it was a sad and shocking moment for me back then...

Had to pause for a brief sob while I was reading it, as for the movie, onga e masyadong mabilis though it was still sad. The movie version's more of a tear-jerker.

Re: Dobby: A Free Elf
I HATE DOBBY WITH PASSION.
He's such an annoying creature that I actually prefer spiteful Kreacher.
So my favorite Dobby moment would probably be his death.
But believe it or not, I seriously cried when he died in the book.
I think his death affected me the most. At least it's the part I did the ugly cry.
But don't get me wrong, I wasn't crying for Dobby, I was crying for Harry.
I was crying because JK did a magnificent job of putting into words the pain and suffering that Harry felt at the time.
Which brings me to what I think is one of the disappointments of the movie. They failed to deliver on this scene. It started out rather moving but then they lost steam. Dobby's death/burial felt rushed. It's possible that Yates didn't want to dwell on sadness. But I really think they should have ended it better.

Re: Dobby: A Free Elf
Having Dobby appear with Kreacher in Grimmauld Place was a good way to set the audience up for his last scene, I think. And his last lines, which weren't in the novel (right?), added to the drama.
I've seen the film twice, and I've shed tears twice as well. Especially when Dobby said he was happy to be with his friend Harry Potter.
RIP Dobby

Re: Dobby: A Free Elf
I wanted to cry during the movie, but I didn't.
The part in the book which really made me cry is when everyone gathered around Dobby's grave, and each person gave Dobby a piece of clothing and then thanked him. It's a moving moment--they were thanking Dobby for saving them and symbolically setting him free (again). It was heartbreaking.
p.s. KHAYE: Please check the Forum Tips and Tricks thread on how to "multi-quote" so that you will not post twice just to reply to 2 people. Thanks.

Awwww. There, there. Tipid nga ng luha ko eh; it's almost as if I didn't cry so you're not alone. Sort of.yvaine wrote:I wanted to cry during the movie, but I didn't.

But yeah, that's the probably one of the plots of the book that made me cry the most. I even cried with Hedwig's death. But both were lost in translation in the movie. I was expecting something that emotionally grand given that Dobby's death was one of the more emotionally-stirring plots in the book.

I've never been highly fond of Dobby, but I've got to admit that I cried during the scene in which he died--both in the book and in the movie.

Woah, seriously, ayaw mo kay Dobby? Nakakatuwa naman! (I like dissenting opinions kasi). Why though?
During the movie, I cried buckets when Dobby died.

Oooooo! I can't remember if I made that connection. About symbolically freeing him I mean. I just remember crying so much.

Hahaha! Yup. I find him annoying. While most people would find his (dangerous) efforts to save Harry quite endearing, I just think it's...annoying. Hahaha! Sorry, wala nako maisip na ibang word to describe how I feel about him. He just bugs the hell out of me. He's not helpful for most of CoS and he was only slightly tolerable in GoF. Basta.

Re: Dobby: A Free Elf
Dobby completes my DH1 (ows? sure? sya nga ba talaga? )...
how i always love to see him on every movie. I really enjoyed watching him, but sad to say...i really hate the part where he died. It breaks my heart everytime. Seen DH1 3-times...and Dobby never fails to make me cry. :'(
Kahit sa soundtrack, when it comes to 'Dobby Farewell', i can't help it - nangingilid talaga luha ko. :'(
I love Dobby nung sa CoS pa lang...he may not look so pleasant, pero love ko sya.
Dobby will always be remembered.

Re: Dobby: A Free Elf
Like Head Girl, I was never really fond of Dobby. Especially in the books. Although I must say he was also endearing. Endearingly annoying, hahaha. But by Book 4, with the way he helped Harry and Winky in the narrative, I kinda warmed up to him. Lalo na nung Book 6, with the way he spied on Draco along with Kreacher.
Book 7 was totally different though. Cryola moment talaga yung death scene. Galing talaga magsulat ni JKR. Yun lang masasabi ko. Medyo naiyak din naman ako in all the 3 times I saw DH part 1, pero hindi katulad nung ngawa ko when I was reading the book Truly, imagination is way better than any cinematic adaptation.

Of course I did. I was crying while reading the book, too. But yeah, if he didn't die, Harry wouldn't have had someone rescuing him on and off, and we wouldn't want that, would we? There'd be no excitement.xD

Another thing that I liked about Dobby in DH was the fact that he's now wearing shoes. Shoes! He used to be bare-footed, but not anymore. He's a free elf fer cryin' out loud! But I would've wanted to see him wear mismatched socks for those socks represent his hard-won freedom courtesy of Harry.

Re: Dobby: A Free Elf
Bringing back Dobby in Grimmauld Place was one of the things I felt the movie did quite well. I had been really worried about how they were to reintroduce Dobby, given that he'd been absent since Chamber of Secrets, and it was nice to see how he was reintegrated into the movie.
On that note, I didn't cry at Dobby's death in the movie, but there was definitely that little tug at my heartstrings. I think I might've been more moved had they not rushed the scene so much, and let the death sink for a minute. In the book, though, oh boy--Kleenex galore talaga! Dobby's final words, the description of the burial, Harry's sadness, Luna's eulogy...it was all written so beautifully. I think it took about 2 or 3 rereads of DH before I could get through that scene without shedding tears.

its hard to take na namatay si dobby. Lalo na yung part na hinagis ni Bellatrix yung knife then i was like "QUICK DOBBY! QUICK! YOU"LL GET HIT!" then he apparated then after that i cried seeing him with a knife stabbed at him.
my favorite part of dobby was when he Snaps his fingers then a spark goes, and also when he warned harry about umbridge seeing them at the D.A.
he's such a very loyal elf...

Since I didn't finished reading the Deathly Hallows yet. I don't think that Dobby died in that part. I just knew it as I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. I was completely shocked. That scene brought me to tears. Dobby is one of my favorite casts in Harry Potter series. Dobby is a great example to us people. Even though he's a house-elf, he acts like a real human because of the way he treat Harry and his friends. Dobby is a hero.
