HBP Posts Best Franchise Opening Day and 2nd Biggest This Year

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opened worldwide yesterday to the tune of $58.2M in the U.S. and $45.8 in foreign markets, totaling $104M in 24 hours. This is the second biggest opening day ever in the U.S. market, just behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which earned $62M domestic. It is also the biggest opening day for any Harry Potter film. HBP also had the highest earning ever for midnight shows, selling $22.2M in the US, overtaking the previous record of $18.5 set by The Dark Knight.
